Maratha Empire, 1758
The Hindu Maratha Empire or Confederacy, originating in 1647 in present-day Maharashtra (India) by 1758, dominated almost all of the Indian subcontinent. It included present-day Pakistan, but three years later they lost it again to the Afghans of the Durrani Empire, and in 1818 the British ended the independence of the Maratha Empire. Its flag was an orange swallow-tailed flag; its colour is symbolic of Hinduism.
