Rakhine State
Rakhine State, formerly Arakan, is on Myanmar's western coast, bordering the Bay of Bengal and the Chittagong Division of Bangladesh to its northwest. It has an area of 36,760 km² and a population of almost 4 million. its capital is Sittwe. Rakhine has been the scene of the terrible riots in 2012 between Muslim Rohingya and ethnic Rakhine Buddhists, leaving many people dead and homes destroyed. The state's flag is white over red with white symbols on a blue disk in the centre.
