Mon State
Mon State in eastern Myanmar with a short border with Thailand and a coastline on the Andaman Sea, has an area of 12,150 km² and a population of almost 3 million, with 500,000 in Mawlamyine, the state capital. Its flag is dark blue with, in yellow, the legendary Hintha bird and the state's name “Mun pyine” in white Burmese script. The ancient Mon kingdom was founded in Bago on the place where a male Hintha bird during a flood landing on a single rock above the floodwaters and let the female stand on his back.
