A performance of “Pungmul”, or “Nongak” (Farmer’s music), a traditional Samil nori drum dance, with acrobatic leaps, performed at the Korean Folk Village near Suwon, south of Seoul. These kind of performances, comprising music, acrobatics, folk dance and rituals were traditionally performed in rice farming villages in order to ensure and to celebrate good harvests. The drummers, playing the “janggu”, a hourglass drum, “buk” (barrel drum) and jing (gong) are led by a player with a “ggwenggwari”, a small gong. The energetic dancers playing small “sogo” drums, wear “sangmo” hats with a long ribbon. |
