A performance of “Pungmul”, or “Nongak” (Farmer’s music), a traditional drum dance, performed at the Korean Folk Village near Suwon, south of Seoul. The drummers, playing the “janggu”, a hourglass drum, “buk” (barrel drum) and jing (gong) are led by a player with a “ggwenggwari”, a small gong. The energetic dancers playing small “sogo” drums, wear “sangmo” hats with a long ribbon. These kind of performances, comprising music, acrobatics, folk dance and rituals were traditionally performed in rice farming villages in order to ensure and to celebrate good harvests.
