Pentheus torn apart

Wall fresco depicting Pentheus torn apart by Agave (his own mother), and her sister Ino, scenes from Greek mythology, in an “oecus”, an entertainment room in the famous House of the Vettii in Pompeii. Almost all of the wall frescos, which were completed following the earthquake of 62 CE have been preserved. They were painted in the Fourth Style: illusionistic architectural frames leave large expanses of wall which contain central panels, for the most part painted with mythological scenes.
