Pompeii
A scene from Greek mythology depicting Hercules as a baby strangling snakes sent as a punishment by Hera, in an “oecus”, a room for the entertainment of large groups in the House of the Vettii, one of the most famous of the luxurious residences in Pompeii. These paintings are executed in the manner art historians term the “Pompeiian Fourth Style” and have been well preserved. They are flanked by “trompe l'oeil” views of architecture.
