Toscana
Tuscany (Toscana) is a region in north-central Italy, regarded as the true birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. Its regional capital is Florence (Firenze). The flag, adopted in 1975, is possibly derived from the red-white-red triband (the Austrian colours) adopted by Tuscany in the latter half of the 18th Century and dropped in 1848; white and red are the traditional colours of most Tuscan towns. The Pegasus, the winged horse, is taken from a coin made by the Florentine artist Benvenuto Cellini in 1537.
