Kingdom of Italy, 1861
The Kingdom of Italy (Regno d'Italia) was a state forged in 1861 by the unification of Italy under the influence of the Kingdom of Sardinia, which was its legal predecessor state. The Italian flag was modelled on that of revolutionary France (blue-white-red) at the end of the 18th Century, with green substituted for blue. The tricolour was officially adopted for the Kingdom of Sardinia with the arms of Savoy in its centre, the basis of the flag of a united Italy.
