Somali National Regional State, 2008
The Somali Region is the second-largest and easternmost of the ten regions of Ethiopia, with an area of about 327,000 km². It covers much of the traditional territory of Ogaden. Its flag was changed when the previous president of the State, Abdulahi Hassan, was dismissed in 2008 and the new administration of Abdi Mohamoud Omar (Abdi Illey) was installed. He replaced, on the green-white-red tricolour, the blue triangle with a white star at the hoist with a yellow triangle with a camel. In 2018 the original flag was reinstated.
