Republic of West-Papua, 1971
On 1 July 1971 a “Republic of West-Papua” was declared, but went unrecognised. The National Coat of Arms that was adopted shows a standing Mambruk bird, the Victoria crowned pigeon (Goura victoria), with outstretched wings. On the chest is a shield with the West-Papuan National flag. In its right claws is a tifa (a traditional Papuan drum) and in its left claws are seven arrows, representing the unity of the West-Papuan people. Above it is an arch with the National motto “One People, One Soul” and a scroll with the name, also in English, is underneath.
