Manu Samoa, a performance by members of Suluvale Samoa Culture and Performing Arts at the Sound Shell in Cairns. They enter the stage, perform the ‘ava ceremony which normally takes place during important occasions; the ‘ava (kava), a drink made from the dried roots of the pepper plant (Piper methysticum) could be prepared by a young woman, customarily a “taupou”, the virgin daughter of a matai (chief). After more song and dance they leave the stage.
