Province of Punjab
Punjab, in the east of Pakistan, is the nation’s most populous province. Its capital is Lahore. Its flag was adopted on 1 July 1970 and is dark green with, in white, the provincial emblem. On a disk are five wavy lines, symbolising the five rivers that give the province its name from Persian: “panj” means “five” and “ab” is “water”. A white crescent and star are added, and the Punjabi inscription “Government of Punjab” in the Shahmukhi script (a modified Perso-Arabic script). Ears of wheat frame the emblem.
