Dornod is Mongolia’s easternmost aimag. Its capital, previously named Bayan Tümen, was in 1941 renamed Choibalsan after the then communist dictator. Its flag is white over light blue, with a wavy white line just underneath the dividing line and the circular provincial emblem in the centre. This shows a leaping deer on a red background with the word “Dornod” in blue Cyrillic capitals. The emblem is surrounded by a yellow ring.
