Prishtina, Kosovo's Capital City
The main entrance to the National Library, a large 16,500 square metre concrete building, featuring 99 white glass cupolas of different sizes and entirely covered in a metal grid. The library, opened in 1982, was home to a huge depository of Albanian literature, much of which, during the regime of of Slobodan Milošević, was used for making cardboard in the early 1990s. But it still contains over 5,000 fine examples of old and rare books and manuscripts, dating back to the 16th Century.
