Daegu Metropolitan City (current)
Daegu (literally 'large hill') formerly spelled as Taegu, is the fourth largest city of South Korea and the third largest metropolitan area in the nation with over 2.5 million residents. Daegu is the principal city of the surrounding North Gyeongsang Province. Its current flag depicts an emblem “expressing a city image full of vigour, pursuing a future-oriented progressive sprit and world oriented opening sprit to shape the images of Palgong Mountain and Nakdong River surrounding Daegu” according to the city's website.
