North Gyeongsang Province (previous)
North Gyeongsang Province, in eastern South Korea, is largely surrounded by mountains: the Taebaek Mountains in the east and the Sobaek Mountains in the west. It is the homeland of the former kingdom of Silla and has retained much of its cultural tradition. Its former flag was blue with a yellow emblem, that looks like a stylised interpretation of the first syllable of its name, Gyeongsangbuk-do, that is displayed in Korean Han'gul script underneath it.
