Limuru, on the eastern edge of the Great Rift Valley, is about 340 kilometres northwest of Nairobi. It was the main area of white settlement and still has its tea- and coffee producing estates. Fifty-five kilometres further north is the town of Naivasha, in Nakuru county, with nearby popular National Parks.
North Kinangop, 38 kilometres further north, is a small town and, like all towns from here south to Nairobi, inhabited by Kikuyu people. Rumuruti, 110 kilometres northwest of Nakuru, is the capital of Laikipia County, just south of the land of the Samburu.
Isiolo, about 160 kilometres by road east of Rumuruti, is a town almost in the exact centre of Kenya. It has a very diverse population, including Somalis; most of its residents are Muslim.
