Eternal Rome, Italy’s capital
The Lateran Palace used to be the residence of the popes in Rome from the 4th until the 14th century when the pope's residence moved to Avignon. When they returned they didn't move back here but eventually settled at the Vatican. The Palace is still under the jurisdiction of the Vatican. In front is the tallest obelisk in Rome, the largest standing ancient Egyptian obelisk in the world, weighing over 230 tons, originally from the temple of Amun in Karnak and brought to Rome in 357.
