Eternal Rome, Italy’s capital
In 312 BCE the censor Appius Claudius built a road linking Rome with the south, following the line of an ancient track. It was called after him the Via Appia and became the most important road from Rome, extending about 700 kilometres. The tomb of Caecilia Metella stands beside it, just outside Rome.
