Apulia, Italy’s far south east
The Palazzo Governo, also called “Palazzo del Catapano”. In the year 876 Basil I, the Byzantine Emperor, made Bari, as the capital of Apulia, a city under the supervision of first a lieutenant and later of a governor (Catapano). For this purpose a building called “Palazzo del Catapano” was built in the old city not far from the port, surrounded by the houses of rich people.
