Palermo, the capital city of Sicily
Rosalia Lombardo, a two year old girl in her glass coffin.
She died in 1920, two years old and was one of the very last to be interred. Her body is still remarkably intact, preserved with an embalming procedure, performed by Professor Alfredo Salafia. Formalin was used to kill bacteria, alcohol to dry the body, glycerin to keep her from overdrying, salicylic acid to kill fungi, and zinc sulfate and zinc chloride to give the body rigidity.
