Imperial Rome, past glory
A large model of what ancient Rome looked like in the age of Constantine I was begun in 1937 by Italo Gismondi and completed in 1971. This plaster model is at a 1:250 scale and housed in the Museo della Civiltà Romana (Museum of Roman Civilization). In the foreground is the Circus Maximus, overlooked by Palatine Hill with the Imperial residences and the Colosseum and the Temple of Divus Claudius to its right, behind it. The Aqua Claudia aqueduct delivering water to the residences, is clearly visible.
