Imperial Rome, past glory

Basrelief, Arch of Titus

The sculpture showing the Romans carrying off the spoils of the temple, including the seven branched candelabrum after the destruction of the Temple of Jerusalem during the campaign of the Roman against the Jewish Zealots. It is on the Arch of Titus, a triumphal arch that commemorates the victory of the emperors Vespasian and Titus in Judea in 70 CE and the triumphal procession they held in Rome a year later.
