Imperial Rome, past glory
The Forum Romanum, for centuries the centre of Roman public life. The remains of the Temple of Saturn is in the foreground. It housed the State Treasury and was venerated as one of the most ancient shrines of Rome, traditionally attributed to the last years of the kings or the first of the Republic. To the left is the Arch of Septimius Severus, dedicated in 203 CE to commemorate the victories of Emperor Septimius Severus and his two sons, Caracalla and Geta, in the two campaigns against the Parthians of 194-195 and 197-199.
