Ceasar's Forum

Ceasar's Forum was the first of the Imperial Forums, a private venture by Julius Caesar. It was an esplanade of 160x75 metres with porticoes on three sides and in the back a large temple of Venus Genetrix, the goddess of motherhood and domesticity. The forum was financed by the vast spoils of the Gallic Wars and dedicated in 46 BCE. It was modified by Trajan in 113 and restored by Diocletian in 283. In the background the monument dedicated to Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of Italy.
