Paphos, the south-west of Cyprus

Peacock mosaic, Dionysos' House

The mosaic floor of the House of Dionysos (Dionysus), a luxurious Roman residence in Kato Paphos Archaeological Park, with a central panel illustrating a peacock with a full display of its blue tail; it dates from the late 2nd or early 3rd century CE. The house was built during the end of the 2nd century CE. In the first half of the 4th century CE it was destroyed, probably due to earthquakes. It was excavated between 1962 and 1965.
