Senj, a fortified town
The Nehaj Fortress (Tvrđava Nehaj) on the hill Nehaj (from the Croatian term Ne hajati, Don’t care). It was finished in 1558 and was built on the remains of ruined churches, monasteries and houses situated outside Senj’s walls. It is square-shaped, 18 metres tall and 23 metres wide, with walls averaging from 2 to 3 metres in thickness. Today, the fortress serves primarily as a museum.
