Hatta, an exclave of the Emirate of Dubai

Hatta is an exclave of the Emirate of Dubai in the Hagar Mountains and almost surrounded by territory belonging to the Sultanate of Oman. The 115 kilometres drive from Dubai to Hatta goes partially through Omani territory, although there are no border formalities. Because of its altitude, Hatta has a milder climate than the city of Dubai, making it a popular vacation place for Dubai residents.

The old village of Hatta has two prominent watchtowers built in the 1880s and the Juma mosque dating from 1780, the oldest building in Hatta. The Heritage Village is a recreation of a traditional village in the mountains. There are various "barasti" houses with displays of all aspects of life in the old days. The restored fort has life-like displays of armed guards and scenes of everyday life. From the watchtowers a scenic view of Hatta and its date palm groves can be seen, with a backdrop of the Hagar Mountains. Twenty kilometres from Hatta are the Hatta Rock Pools, across the border in Oman.

The 4 star Hatta Fort Hotel is a comfortable mountain retreat and the only place to stay.
