Houses in Jelsum

Houses along Op 'e Terp in Jelsum, a village of around 230 inhabitants just to the north of Leeuwarden. As the name of the street implies, the houses are built on top of a “terp”, an artificial hill, constructed in the Middle Ages to provide safe ground during high tide and river floods. The church (its tower visible in the background) stands in the centre of the terp.
