Traditions and Folklore in Friesland
A couple in costume as it used to be worn by well-to-do Frisian farmers in the early 19th century, on a traditional two-wheeled carriage in Harlingen. The woman wears an “oorijzer” (ear iron), a kind of gold helmet fitting tightly over the head and worn under a lace cap.
