United Nations Temporary Executive Authority - West New Guinea 1962
On 1 October 1962 administration of Netherlands New Guinea passed to the United Nations Temporary Executive Authority (UNTEA) as part of the New York Agreement signed in September that year, on the condition that the people of Western New Guinea would be able to participate in an Act of Free Choice at a later stage to determine the permanent status of the territory. The flag used was the light blue flag of the United Nations, dating from 20 October 1947, featuring a world map representing all the people of the world, surrounded by olive branches, a symbol for peace.
