Samarkand: the historic centre
The Sher-Dor Madrasah (built from1619–1636), with its tiger mosaics (they were meant t be lions), commissioned by Yalangtush Bakhodur, the 17th century ruler of Samarkand, on the Registan, the heart of the ancient city of Samarkand of the Timurid dynasty, a public square, where people gathered to hear royal proclamations and a place of public executions.
