Kokand, in the western Fergana Valley

Palace of Khudoyar Khan

Interior of the Palace of Khudayar Khan, the last ruler of the Kokand Khanate, built between 1863 and 1874. Known as the Pearl of Kokand, it was constructed by 16,000 conscripted or enslaved workers; eighty master builders designed and built an ornate structure of variegated colours and rich ornaments with geometric patterns, arabesques, and floral motifs all made from ceramic tiles and based on tales of the Orient.
