Uzbek Socialist Soviet Republic, 1929

In 1928 Yanga imlâ, the modified Arabic script, was abolished in the Soviet Union and the Latin “Yangalif” (New Alphabet), that had been developed since 1924, was now mandated for Central Asia’s Turkic and Tajik languages. In 1929 a new red flag reflected this change, with now, in the canton, the republic’s name, Uz.S.S.R. in Uzbek at the top and Tajik at the bottom, both written in Yangalif Latin script and Russian Cyrillic in between, in yellow.
