Bukhara: the historic centre
Entrance to the Ark of Bukhara, the massive fortress and residence, initially built and occupied around the 5th century CE and inhabited by the various royal courts that ruled the region surrounding Bukhara, until 1920 when the last Emir, Alim Khan, had to flee upon the conquest by the Russian Red Army under General Michael Frunze.
