The People of Suriname
Showing a manioc strainer, a long, tube-shaped, pressure strainer, woven in a characteristic helical pattern from palm leaves, to be hung from one end and twisted from the other, to expel the bitter liquid with poison from the cassava (manioc) pulp before it can be used; in Gunsi, a Saramacca Maroon village on the Upper Suriname river, in the centre of Suriname.
