Paramaribo, Suriname's Capital
Wooden buildings, along the Henck Arronstraat (formerly Gravenstraat) in the centre of Paramaribo, with the Hendrikschool, dating from 1885 or a slightly later period, around the turn of the century (1900). In the background the Saint Peter and Paul Basilica (St. Petrus en Paulus Basiliek), a wooden Roman Catholic cathedral, the biggest wooden structure in the Western Hemisphere and the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Paramaribo.
