Paramaribo, Suriname's Capital
The Presidential Palace of Suriname (Gouvernementsgebouw), also housing the National Assembly of Suriname, the Congress building, the Court of Justice, and the Ministry of Finance. It was built in 1730 and in 1911 expanded to its current size, with the addition of the portico and terrace. A decade later saw the completion of the one story west wing. It is known as “Het Presidentieel Paleis”, the venture for presidential addresses (often from the centre balcony) and used as a venue for government and diplomatic events.
