Nickerie, Suriname's North-west
The statue of the female slave Alida in Wageningen, the rice centre of Suriname, on the Nickerie river in the Nickerie District, 54 kilometres east of Nieuw Nickerie and 203 kilometres from Paramaribo. It is claimed that her mistress, the cruel Susanna du Plessis, hacked off her left breast to serve it to her husband as punishment, because he had been ogling her voluptuously.
