Moiwana Monument

One of the 38 small pillars at the Moiwana Monument, each with the name of a victim of the massacre in Moiwana, on 29 November 1986. It is inscribed in both Latin and Afaka script (a syllabary of 56 letters devised in 1910 for the Ndyuka language, an English-based creole). The 11 metre high central pillar has symbols of Solidarity and “Kibi Wi” (Protect Us); it stands for the “Kibi man” (Protector) of the community. He wakes from up high and protects against negative influences from outside, as they happened in the village that day.
