The independence of the Republic of the Orange Free State ended with the signing of the Treaty of Vereeniging on 31 May 1902, marking the end of the Anglo-Boer War. Once again, the Union Jack became the official flag. An official seal was approved on 10 December 1904; it displayed a Springbok (Antidorcas marsupialis), a medium-sized antelope common to southern Africa. As usual, this badge was displayed on a British Blue Ensign.
