Princely State of Bahawalpur, 1885
Bahawalpur, now a town in Punjab Province, was an independent nation, founded in 1727. In 1883 it was admitted as a princely state of British India, ruled by Nawabs, hereditary rulers. It adopted a flag in 1885, a vertical tricolour of red, yellow and blue, with an upturned black crescent and star on the central stripe. The colours red and green were linked to the Islamic religion, and yellow was probably the dynastic colour of the Nawab.
