Mingun, on the Ayeryawady
The Mingun Pahtodawgyi, the brick base of the pagoda started in 1790 during the rule of King Bodawpaya. It was to have been 150 metres high. A prophesy that the king would die if it was completed slowed the project down and when he did die in 1819 work was halted. A small shrine with a Buddha image is at the base.
