Bogd Khan and wife

Display of the Bogd Khan and his wife Tsendiin Dondogdulam in the National Museum of Mongolia. The Bogd Khan (1869–1924) was enthroned as the Great Khaan of Mongolia on 29 December 1911, when Outer Mongolia declared independence from China. Born in Tibet, as the eighth Jebtsundamba Khutuktu, he was the Bogdo Lama, the third most important person in the Tibetan Buddhism hierarchy, below only the Dalai and Panchen Lamas, the spiritual leader of Outer Mongolia's Tibetan Buddhism.
