Republic of Moldova, 1990
On 27 August 1991 Moldova became an independent republic with a new flag, that had been approved on 27 April 1990 and officially adopted on 12 May 1990: a vertical blue-yellow-red tricolour, the coat of arms in the centre: an eagle with a cross in its beak and a sceptre and olive branch in its claws, protected by a shield bearing the traditional arms of Moldavia: an auroch’s head with a star between its horns. It also contains two lozenges (the ears), a five-petaled rose and a crescent moon. The flag’s proportions are 2:1.
