Micronesian culture is intimately connected with the sea, canoe building, fishing and their legendary navigation are paramount. Traditional songs and dances are also performed during celebrations, as here on Yap island. Youngsters on Ulithi were taught traditional dances in the island’s Men’s House by their elders. At the Festival of Pacific Arts, held every four years in a different location, dancers from the Caroline Islands, living in the Northern Marianas perform there as well.
