Republic of Malta, 1975
On 13 December 1974, Malta became a Republic, and a new emblem was adopted seven months later, on 11 July 1975. It depicts a coastal scene with the rising sun, a traditional Maltese boat, a shovel, a pitchfork, and Prickly Pear, a cactus genus. All of these symbols are somewhat connected to Malta. Underneath is the country’s name, Repubblika ta’ Malta (Republic of Malta).
