Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, 1953
In 1953, Britain combined Nyasaland with Northern and Southern Rhodesia (present-day Zambia and Zimbabwe), the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, often called the Central African Federation. Its flag was the British Blue Ensign with the Coat of arms of the Federation on the fly. It had the rising sun on a blue field in the upper shield and a leopard from the arms of Nyasaland; white wavy lines on a black field at the base of the shield from the arms of Northern Rhodesia; the dovetail fesse, linking the parts of the shield, had a red lion passant, from the arms of Southern Rhodesia.
