The Jongmyo Daeje Ceremony, Seoul
The “Heonga” orchestra on the lower terrace performing the Jeryeak (ritual music), performed during the Jongmyo Daeje ceremony. Visible are the Pyeonjong, a set of 16 tuned bells arranged in a wooden frame and the Eo, a wooden percussion instrument in the shape of a tiger with a serrated back, played by running a bamboo whisk across it to mark the ends of sections. The music, songs, and dances originated over 500 years ago.
